The Political Reform Audit Program of the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) conducts audits of selected state and local candidates and campaign committees. The Political Reform Audit Program also conducts audits of selected lobbying firms and lobbyist employers registered with the Secretary of State. The audit is released on the last business day of each month.
Beginning in 2020, the audit program report release schedule will change from once a month to once every other month. The released public audit reports are sent as an email attachment to each agency, including the Secretary of State, as detailed in Government Code Section 90004 via the agency’s designated recipient(s).
Also, the reports are sent to the candidate or committee(s) being audited and their designed representative(s) and treasurer(s) on the same release date. These are sent via email or the US Postal Service. If FTB is contacted by someone other than these recipients, FTB’s Public Affairs office typically refers the requester to the appropriate filing officer for a copy of the report since that is where the audit reports are required to be filed. FTB does not post the Political Reform Audit Reports on its own public website.
