Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom's 2024-25 State Budget Proposal

SACRAMENTO, CA – California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom's 2024-25 state budget proposal.

"In these fiscally challenging times, we understand that state programs and services must be scrutinized. The January Budget includes resources for the Secretary of State to maintain its core ongoing operations.

“In addition, the Budget includes funding to support the Help America Vote Act mandates and resources to continue the CAL-ACCESS Replacement System (CARS) Project and to support the continuation of the Notary Automation Program Replacement Project (NAP 2.0) which are mission critical and vital to the services the SOS provides to the public, Legislature, and its stakeholders. We appreciate the Governor’s support as well as the partnership with the Department of Finance throughout this process."
