California Secretary of State Weber and Superintendent Thurmond Kick Off High School Voter Education Weeks

Sacramento, Calif. – April 15 marked the start of High School Voter Education Weeks (April 15-26) in California. This provides an opportunity for high schools and their students to partner with county election officials to promote civic education and participation on campus and foster an environment that cultivates lifelong voters and active citizens.

California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., in partnership with California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, issued a letter encouraging all California high schools to participate in High School Voter Education Weeks, April 15-26, 2024. Assemblymember Gail Pellerin introduced House Resolution 89, recognizing High School Voter Education Weeks to encourage all California High Schools to participate.

By participating, high school students have the opportunity to learn how to pre-register to vote, how to become a student election poll worker, host a Student Mock Election, and possibly organize voter registration drives on their campuses.

"High School Voter Education Weeks embodies the spirit of democracy by empowering our youth with the knowledge and tools necessary to engage in our electoral process," said California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., "As we reach out to California's high schools, our goal is to inspire a new generation to understand the power of their vote and the impact it can have on shaping their future. I look forward to witnessing the enthusiasm and commitment of our students as they embark on this journey towards becoming lifelong voters and active participants in our democracy."
