California State Archives Offers Free Behind-the-Scenes Women’s History Month Tour
SACRAMENTO, CA - The State Archives will provide a free guided tour of their collections documenting California’s rich history and state government for Women’s History Month. The State Archives' collections of historic records include more than 100 million documents, 20,000 maps and architectural drawings, 250,000 photographs and thousands of video and audio recordings. Each guided tour provides a close encounter with the Archives’ one-of-a-kind historical documents and behind-the-scenes views of the preservation and imaging labs and free admission to its Exhibit Gallery. This tour will feature a Spanish land grant deeded to Apolinaria Lovenzana, one of the first women to receive a land grant, photographs of prominent women from California history, and legislative documents relating to women's suffrage, some of which date back to 1879.
The Archives tour begins promptly at 10:00 a.m., lasting approximately one hour. As parking downtown can be challenging, please give yourself ample time to find parking. Questions are encouraged and tours sometimes go over an hour, so please ensure that your metered parking allows an 11:30 a.m. return.
