Secretary of State Padilla to Kick Off Statewide College and University Ballot Bowl Voter Registration Competition at UCLA

LOS ANGELES - Ahead of National Voter Registration Day, Secretary of State Alex Padilla will be joined by student and administration leaders at UCLA to kick off California's first ever College and University Voter Registration Ballot Bowl. The Ballot Bowl will challenge California Community College, California State University, University of California, and Private (AICCU) campuses to participate in a friendly competition for the highest number of students registered and the highest percentage of the student body registered to vote. The results will be posted on the Secretary of State website and the competition will run through the October 22 voter registration deadline.

UCLA will be the first university in California and one of the first in the nation to offer automatic, autofill voter registration to their students by linking through their MyUCLA portal in the coming weeks. As part of an MOU agreement that will be signed at the press conference, UCLA student leaders will "dorm storm" campus residential halls on September 25 in recognition of National Voter Registration Day encouraging students to register to vote while the administration will urge students to register through the MyUCLA portal.

This new competition was developed by the California Students Vote Project, a project of the California Secretary of State in partnership with the California Lieutenant Governor and a coalition of nonprofit organizations. The coalition aims to increase civic engagement and voter partici­pation among California university and college students.
