SACRAMENTO – Secretary of State Alex Padilla released the latest statewide Report of Registration ahead of the June 5, 2018, Statewide Direct Primary. As of April 6, 2018 there were 18,854,829 registered voters in California. This is an increase of 1,194,343 registered voters since the last Report of Registration at a similar point in a gubernatorial election cycle (April 4, 2014).

75.03% of eligible Californians are registered to vote. This is the highest percentage of eligible citizens registered to vote heading into a California Gubernatorial Primary in the past 64 years.
“It’s exciting to see the highest percentage of eligible Californians registered to vote in decades. But for those who haven’t registered yet, there is still time to register ahead of the June 5 Statewide Primary Election,” Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. “And if you’ve moved or changed your name since the last election, you can quickly and easily update registration information online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov. If you are unsure of your voter registration status, you can verify your information quickly and easily using the My Voter Status tool at voterstatus.sos.ca.gov.”
“The results of California’s 2018 statewide elections will determine the future of our state and our communities for years to come. Only those who are registered to vote will have a say in the representatives we elect and in the initiatives we enact. Voter participation makes our democracy stronger,” Padilla added.
The Report of Registration includes:
- Voter registration by political party, by county, city, congressional district, state senate district, and state assembly district.
- Statewide voter registration by age group by county.
- Historical comparisons to previous reports in gubernatorial primary years.
- Reports on political bodies attempting to qualify as political parties (by county).
