California Secretary of State Alex Padilla Statement on Trump Election Commission’s Request of Texas Voter Data with Hispanic Surnames

SACRAMENTO – Secretary of State Alex Padilla issued the following statement after reporting from the Washington Post on Trump’s recently dissolved ‘Presidential Advisory Commission on Voter Integrity’ was published this afternoon.

“Reports that Trump’s ‘Presidential Advisory Commission on Voter Integrity’ specifically requested Texas voter data with ‘Hispanic surnames’ flagged is offensive. Commission members' claims to have ‘no idea’ that this data was requested shows, once again, the Commission’s dysfunction from the beginning.”

“I call on Vice President Pence and Secretary Kobach to take full responsibility for their Commission's actions and explain to the American people how such a blatantly discriminatory request was authorized. It is undeniable that the Commission was acting maliciously to attack voting rights and public confidence in our elections.”
