Secretary of State Padilla Urges Californians to Register to Vote on National Voter Registration Day
SACRAMENTO – Today, September 27, 2016 is National Voter Registration Day, and Secretary of State Alex Padilla is encouraging Californians to ensure they are registered ahead of the November 8 General Election.
"The first step to casting a ballot is to register to vote," Secretary Padilla said. "Eligible Californians can visit RegisterToVote.ca.gov and register to vote in minutes. Whether you're at home on your desktop computer, or on the go using your smartphone or tablet, online voter registration is quick and easy."
"National Voter Registration Day is a great reminder that if you've moved or changed your name, you'll need to update your registration. New citizens should also take the time to register to ensure they can cast a ballot this November."
There are 18,084,999 Californians registered to vote as of July 7. However, there are still 6.7 million eligible, but unregistered Californian citizens.
The last day to register to vote in the November 8 General Election is October 24. Californians can register to vote online at: http://registertovote.ca.gov/
Californians can check their voter registration status at the "My Voter Status" website: https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/
