Secretary of State Alex Padilla to Deliver Keynote Speech at Sacramento Citizenship Ceremony and Visit Grant Union High School

 

SACRAMENTO – Secretary of State Alex Padilla will deliver the keynote address at a citizenship ceremony and visit a local high school in Sacramento tomorrow, September 22. 

Naturalization Ceremony

Secretary of State Padilla will deliver the keynote speech at a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) naturalization ceremony at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. 

Secretary Padilla will be encouraging the new citizens to register to vote and stressing the importance of participating in all elections. 

337 new citizens, hailing from 54 countries, are expected to take the Oath of Allegiance at this ceremony. 

USCIS is asking new citizens and their families and friends to share the experience and photos at their ceremonies via Twitter using the hashtag #newUScitizen. 

Media are welcome to cover this event, and to approach new citizens for interviews.

 Grant Union High School Visit

At 11:00 a.m., Secretary of State Alex Padilla will visit Grant Union High School as part of High School Voter Education Weeks (September 19-30). 

Secretary of State Padilla will discuss the importance of voter registration and the role young people can play in shaping the future through civic participation. He will be joined by Sacramento Mayor-Elect Darrell Steinberg.
