Secretary of State Alex Padilla to Address New Citizens and Students in Fresno, Kings, and Tulare Counties
Secretary of State Alex Padilla will address new US Citizens and students in Fresno, Kings, and Tulare counties today, April 19 in an effort to encourage civic engagement ahead of the 2016 elections.
At 10:00 a.m. Secretary Padilla’s first stop is at a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) naturalization ceremony at the Fresno Convention center. He will be encouraging the new citizens to register to vote and stressing the importance of participating in all elections. 681 new citizens, originating from 51 countries, are expected to take the Oath of Allegiance at this ceremony.
At 1:30 p.m. Secretary Padilla will then visit Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia tomorrow as part of High School Voter Education Weeks (April 18 – 29). He will discuss the importance of voter registration and the role young people can play in shaping the future through civic participation.

At 3:30pm, Secretary Padilla will speak with 100 students at West Hills Community College in Lemoore, CA about participating in the 2016 elections.
