Final Day for Californians to Register to Vote in November 8 General Election
Californians can Register to Vote Online Until Midnight
SACRAMENTO – Today, October 24 is the deadline for eligible California citizens to register to vote for the first time or to update their voter registration information for the November 8 General Election.
“Californians have until midnight to register to vote or update their voter registration," Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. “Californians can register to vote online in just minutes at RegisterToVote.ca.gov. Online voter registration is mobile friendly too, so you can even register from your smartphone or tablet.”
“If you have moved or changed your name, you need to re-register. This election will shape our nation, state, and communities for years to come—make sure you’re registered to vote and not left on the sidelines.”
Californians can register to vote, or update their registration information on the Secretary of State’s official voter registration website: RegisterToVote.ca.gov. Online voter registration is available in 10 languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese.
Paper voter registration forms are available at county elections offices, libraries, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, and U.S. post offices. Paper voter registration forms must be postmarked on or before the October 24 deadline.
Californians may also check their voter registration status via the new My Voter Status page on the Secretary of State’s website.
Californians must re-register to vote if:
- They move to a new permanent residence,
- They change their name, or
- Want to change their political party choice
